A Trip To Morocco — Back To The Roots

A Trip To Morocco — Back To The Roots

Last April, we travelled to Morocco to capture something truly special for Noare, images and videos that tell the story behind our argan oil, and the place where it all began.

We went to the village of my grandparents on my mother’s side, the place where I’ve spent most of my summers. Their home is surrounded by argan trees, stretching endlessly across the hills. Life there is simple, peaceful in a way that I can’t seem to find anywhere else. It’s the kind of quiet that grounds you.

Shooting there felt like coming full circle. My family was so proud to see me doing what I’ve dreamed of for so long, creating something rooted in where I come from. We started around 9 in the morning and wrapped up around six in the afternoon, exhausted but happy.

To celebrate the end of the shoot, my mother’s aunt made us the best tajine, the kind that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. We drank sweet atay, brewed the traditional way, with that perfect balance of mint and warmth. She really does make the best atay ever. And the bread? Handmade, right there in the living room, still warm from the fire.

I’m very aware that I won’t have my grandparents forever, so I try to visit as often as I can. Every trip feels like a gift,  another memory to hold onto.

I brought one photographer and one videographer with me, Kawtar Ouh and Sanae Khamlichi, and by the end of the trip, they’d become part of the family. My grandparents still ask about them every time we call. That’s the kind of love this place gives. It stays with you.
